THE AMERICAN MAGAZINE «STATE» PRESENTS SKOPJE AS “THE PEARL OF THE BALKANS”
In the April 2010 issue of the official magazine of the US Department of State «STATE»,
Skopje is presented with the title «MACEDONIAN’S PEARL OF THE BALKANS» Something that
is condemnable and false for at least two reasons.
1.Some time ago the United Nations appointed an administrator in Kosovo who characterised
Skopje as the «bomb of the Balkans».
2.As it is known, on the 2nd August 1944 Tito with Stalin’s consent renamed Vardaska from
Serbian territory «Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia», an act which constituted a
political and historical fraud. His aim was to extract Macedonia from Greece in order to
take control of the Aegean, serving thus the expansionist plans of the Soviet Union in
view of the Cold War that was to follow. So that with the help of the powerful Communist
Parties in Italy and France at the time and with Germany defeated and economically ruined, Europe would become Communist.
Apart from the above, the Secretary of the US State Department of the Roosevelt government Stettinius gave instructions with the No 868614/26.12.1944 circular to the USA Ambassadors and Consuls to pass the information around that the American government regards as demagoguery (namely fraud) the existence of a «Macedonian Nation» and «Macedonian consciousness» and that these assertions do not represent national and political reality and their aim is to extract part of Greece (of Macedonia, which is inhabited by Greeks).
In 1992 the Secretary of the US State Department Henri Kissinger remarked in a Managers
Convention in France: «Greece is right about the name. I say this because I know History.
Something that cannot be said about Ministers and High Officials in Washington.
The strong weapon of Greece is History of which she has not made use yet.»
In 1942 Macedonia was saved by the Truman Dogma and did not become a socialist democracy
nor was it incorporated in Skopje, which was the Soviet Union’ s target.
George Bush junior, on the other hand, subverted the long established USA policy for
Skopje and named it «Macedonia». He contradicted himself because he had declared twice
that in 1947 America helped Berlin and Greece to maintain their freedom. The very year
that Macedonia was saved by the Truman Dogma.
The article in the «STATE» magazine is contrary to the contents of the letter sent to
President Obama and signed by no less than 360 University Professors from Harvard,
Princeton, Oxford, Berkeley as well as from other important institutions of USA, Germany,
Austria, Italy, Canada that condemn President Bush’ s resolution to call Skopje
«Macedonia», because it is not in accordance with the historical truth, as Macedonia
has been Greek since the 8th century B.C. The fact that the inhabitants of Skopje are in
their majority Slavs was confirmed by the former President of Skopje Mr Gligorov in his
book “RECOLLECTIONS” who frequently stressed that they cannot claim Alexander. In a recent interview he gave to the journalist Savvidis he stated that historians laugh at what it is said in his country. Also, the former major of Skopje, the Foreign Minister of Skopje and the Chief editor of a Skopjan newspaper said that they try very hard to persuade their children that they are not descendants of the ancient Macedonians, but they would not believe them, because this is what they have been taught (see page 300, note 201 in the book «The seven-year co-existence» by Kofos-Vlassidis).
In the documentary «MACEDONIA, the Hellenistic civilisation as far as Asia» by Photis
Constantinidis, historians and archaeologists of international repute present museums,
monuments, inscriptions and coins that reveal the indisputable Hellenic identity of the
Macedonians, as it is corroborated by ancient Greek, Roman and Jewish authors. French
archaeologists that carried out excavations in Asia unravel the contribution of Alexander
the Great and his Macedonian successors to the Hellenic, European and universal history.
Personalities that visited Macedonia (the king of Spain, President Francois Mitterand,
Ministers of Culture of Canada, Australia and other countries) witnessed the truth that
is presented in the documentary by Photis Constantinidis.
The Central Council of Israel in Greece mentions in a letter of the 11th January 1993
addressed to the International Jewish Conventions and Councils that «The Judean religion
and philology constitute the undeniable witnesses of the ancient ethnological character
of the Macedonians as Greek».
«The intellectual encounter of Greeks and Arabs, ensuing the spreading of the Hellenic
culture by the army of Alexander the Great, was a significant historic event, the immense
benefits of which are reflected in Islam, Europe and the entire world», wrote Dennis
Overbye in 2001 in the TIMES magazine of New York.
The ancient texts of ancient Greek philosophers were preserved and studied in the Library
of Alexandria, but also in Antioch, Pergamus, Ephesus and Tarsus. In the 8th century A.D.
these texts were translated into Arabic by Arab scholars of Baghdad. Later they
transferred them to Spain where they were translated into Latin; thus contributing to the
coming of Renaissance. Characteristically the Greek language remained the official language
of Syria and Egypt for 100 years after their conquest by the Arabs.
The Old and New Testament refer to the Macedonians as Greek.
Prophet Daniel mentions in the book of the Maccabeans that «The Greek king will win the
Persian Sovereign» (Alexander will win Darius).
In 50 A.D. Apostle Paul visited the cities Philppus, Thessaloniki and Veria, namely
cities that had long before the year 50 A.D. and continue to have the same Greek names,
a fact that confirms the identity of Macedonia as Greek. He encountered Greek men and
women in Thessaloniki and Veria who were converted to Christianity.
Apostle Paul spoke and wrote his letters to the inhabitants of Thessaloniki and Philippus
in the Greek language.
On the 18th September 1983 the internationally known archaeologist Manolis Andronikos
wrote in the newspaper «TO VIMA»: «Definitive answer to the question of the origin of the
ancient Macedonians are the inscriptions on 70 columns in Vergina, as well as 5000
inscriptions in the Greek language and 1100 Macedonian names in the National Research
Centre in Athens.
Finally, the Greek gods that leave no room for disputing the Hellenic origin of the
ancient Macedonians.
